Plant Medicine (Psychedelics)
All plant medicines have the capability of having a dark side and light side, because they create rifts on the inner realms that are like open doors for whatever to enter; just like an open window at night with no screen allowing mosquitoes to enter. Things do bite in the dark. Be aware of these forces as all plants teach/heal according to their own consciousness as an intelligent species. Do not be naive in "thinking" nothing can go wrong, for these species have their own way of teaching you; some nice; some not so nice. Deception and manipulation can exist with them because their power exists on the inner realms right along side other varied species of disincarnate beings. Let this be a warning in cultivating discernment. Some species will make you think you are literally dying and the terror that will arise from that can be quite daunting. This is why it is of utmost importance to educate yourself to be aware of the challenges that can and will arise, and to also use discernment and discretion with whom you journey with. There are many out there, who like children playing with matches, have no idea what consequences can arise from mixing alcohol and or pharmaceuticals with plant medicine. It is ignorant humans who believe that plants are just "things" to use. Guess again!
Using Psychedelics Safely - If you are using plant medicine or synthesized drugs, then you should be aware of the levels that can be navigated. Most use them for "fun or escape," but there is more to be aware of before hand, rather than when the experience gets larger than you expected or moves beyond what you thought you were in control of. Psychedelics are powerful spiritual tools period and you should be prepared for events that may get out of hand. There are important steps to take for your well being before using them. Psychedelics have the potential to free the imprisoned mind from the dysfunction that permeates all cultures. What begins to arise is authentic Being and its vast potential. The many will tell you that these open up Pandora's Box and so should be avoided. In reality, Pandora's Box is nothing more than everything culture denies in order to suppress individual consciousness or authentic Being. Cultures differentiate by altering and suppressing the fullness of consciousness. One can go to extremes and this is where humanity finds itself in this present time period. Beware means to Be Aware. If you feel you need to talk to someone, seek out appropriate guidance by those who understand their uses as spiritual tools and have used them in their own healing work.

I highly recommend reading "The Natural Mind: A new way of looking at drugs and higher consciousness" by Andrew Weil. A very informative and thought provoking book that calls into question a great deal of the government and media portrayal of drugs and a very frank discussion on consciousness. Our society is blind to the realization that alcohol, nicotine, sugar, and a host of others, are drugs in their own right. In Chinese medicine, the Chinese consider all foods medicine, which means foods are drugs. Food is an excellent feeling suppressor, and given the level of obesity in our culture these days, it says a lot. And even if you are not obese, food is still used to suppress feelings. This occurs when certain feelings arise and we are uncomfortable with them or are just starting to become aware of them, when suddenly we have this strong craving to eat. Most of us eat when the craving arises, whether that be slight or intense. A good rule of thumb of knowing when you need to eat is when you have strong hunger pangs. You will be surprised as you watch for this, how often we crave food for suppression purposes. Eating food brings us comfort, but when used to suppress feelings it can lead to serious problems physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually; by the way Chocolate is a drug.
"The experience attained by the Entheogenic [En(in)theo(God)gen(generation)] use of this mushroom is extremely valuable, yet the rules for experimentation of this type are unforgiving. Never eat any mushroom, unless you are absolutely certain that it is the one you want. Verify its identification with an expert mycologist. This is not a recreational experience. The Shamanic 'DEATH (and REBIRTH) EXPERIENCE' is called that for a very good reason (it is, what it is). When experimenting with entheogenic mushrooms, always have a few friends along (as monitors) in case you need to be assured that you are not dying. Research this before experimenting. Plan a full day for your experience. This is not a scheduled substance, responsible and careful use will keep it that way. Be Smart, Ever onward. Most of all, JUST SAY KNOW." - James Arthur - Ethnomycologist
Be aware of the shamans you are working with in regards to using Ayahuasca. Just like any doctor, lawyer or such, there are good ones and not so good ones. Just because someone professes to have been trained by a qualified teacher, doesn't mean the teacher or the students intentions are benevolent. Everyone needs to use discernment with those who are directing your spiritual unfoldment. Words are meaningless, while intent is identifiable through their actions or lack thereof. Also be aware of the fact that spirituality is no different than religion, and there are those who desire to control and dominate what you believe through deception on many different levels. Pay heed to your intuitive hunches when something doesn't feel right or look right. If you don't, you will be paying a stiffer price than you bargained for. You are in charge of your spirituality and no one else. If someone tells you otherwise, keep your opinions to yourself and move on. Your best defense is learning greater discernment and listening to your intuitive, instinctual self, as well as educating yourself and reading extensively on the subject to get perspectives from others experience. Also, realize just because someone says it's the truth, doesn't mean it is. There's money to be made off of naive vulnerable people seeking a quick way out of their pain and suffering. Obedience is not a prerequisite for becoming conscious. Even more of an issue are those who have a greed for power; yours. The need to dominate and control others is an insatiable desire; power. Keep this in mind as your guide.
